These scholarships aim to alleviate some financial costs and increase higher education participation by students from minority backgrounds, based on academic and extra-curricular records
Special Interest Scholarships
Dr. William E. Ward Family (HBCU) Scholarship Established in 2018, this scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. William E. Ward. It’s a joint effort with Dr. Rosemarie Ward. This scholarship specifically designates funds for a student attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). The first award was given in 2019, and a $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually. Donors can contribute to help it grow.
Fine Arts Scholarship Started in 2020, this scholarship supports students involved in fine arts, including music (vocal or instrumental), speech, drama, acting, set design, stage crew, student director, and dancing. A $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to one graduating student from Chesapeake Public Schools planning to attend college, university, or community college.
NCMPEF Vocational Trade and Technology Scholarship Established in 2020, this is a $1,000 scholarship supporting vocational trade and technology education.
George W. McCadden, Sr. Vocational Trades and Technology Scholarship Established in 2023, this $1,000 scholarship honors the legacy of George W. McCadden, Sr., a “bricklayer” and businessman. It’s intended to help young Vocational Trade and/or Technology students advance their education.
NCMPEF & Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority Scholarship Created on March 31, 2022, in partnership with CRHA. This $1,000 scholarship is for male students graduating from Chesapeake Public Schools who live in public housing or private housing supported by CRHA Housing Choice Vouchers and plan to attend a two or four-year accredited college or university.
Chesapeake Education Association Teacher Scholarship In partnership with the Chesapeake Education Association, this scholarship was established in 2020. The goal is to encourage Black males to become public school teachers, addressing the disparity in representation. A $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually.
Intercooler, Inc. Vocational Trades and Technology Scholarship Established in 2023 by Ian Isaac Thomas of Intercooler, Inc.. This $1,000 scholarship is entrusted to the Foundation to administer and aims to provide opportunities for those in vocational trades and technology.
March Cromuel, Jr. Civic Engagement and Empowerment Scholarship Established in 2024, this is a $1,000 scholarship focusing on civic engagement and empowerment.
Norfleet Claude, Jr. Music and Band Scholarship Established in 2024 by Norfleet Claude, Jr., this $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually in August. It assists students attending Norfolk State University and pursuing careers in music, with a focus on playing the flute or alto saxophone.
