What is The Annual Black Male Achievement and Scholarship Breakfast?
The Annual Black Male Achievement and Scholarship Breakfast is a premier event dedicated to celebrating the “best and the brightest” young men in our community. This program recognizes the academic excellence and leadership of African American male seniors graduating from all seven high schools in Chesapeake. By highlighting these students as role models in the classroom and the community, the event serves to encourage a culture of high achievement for the next generation.
The core mission of this program is to provide vital scholarships that help offset the costs of higher education while establishing a professional support network to assist these young men in succeeding in both school and life. To foster excellence early on, the event also features the Dr. Darnell Johnson Distinguished Scholar Award, which recognizes exceptional middle school students and prepares them for a successful transition to high school. Every year, this gathering reinforces our commitment to “forging ahead and striving for excellence” by investing in our youth and passing the torch to the leaders of tomorrow
