Mentoring session on Black History on 04/04/26

The New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation was proud to host Chesapeake Middle School students at the Buffalow Community Center on Saturday, April 4, 2026. Mr. Thomas Sledge, American Revolutionary War Re-enactor, and Dr. Curtis Alexander, Civil War Expert, enlightened students from Crestwood Middle School, Hugo Owens Middle School, Oscar Smith Middle School, and Indian River Middle School. The students were selected based upon their academic performance, good behavior, and excellent character. The students enjoyed learning about African-American History not covered in the History books and viewing artifacts and clothing of the era. Chairman Alexander stated to the students and their parents that there will be future field trips to a baseball game and Triple R Ranch for horseback riding, archery, etc. Special thanks to committee members Mr. Al Alexander, Col. William Bennett, Dr. Brian Cuffie, and Mr. Tim Jones for planning the event.
