Building Stronger Together: Community Support Powers Our Mission
On our site, you see the outcomes: scholarships, programs, recognized students. What makes it all happen? Community support! It’s a two-way street – we rely on it, and we give it right back to Chesapeake.
How the Community Supports Us (And You Help!):
- We receive vital financial, physical, and spiritual support.
- Support comes from loyal donors like individuals, corporations, and community organizations.
- Key supporters include Senator L. Louise Lucas, Dominion Energy, Towne Bank, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, Dragas Companies, Tidewater Community College, ILA Local 1248, Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, and the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Charities.
- Signature, Silver, Bronze, and Table Sponsors are crucial.
- Individual donations are essential.
- This support is crucial for initiatives like awarding scholarships and providing mentoring services.
How We Support the Community:
- We provide guidance and mentoring to middle and high school students as a “Proud Partner” with Chesapeake Public Schools.
- We give annual educational grants and mini-grants to support youth mentoring programs.
- Supported organizations include Ground Zero Development, Inc., Chesapeake Juvenile Service Education Program, Boys and Girl Club (including their Youth of the Year Program), and Chesapeake Center for Student Success.
- Annual school supplies grants go to Title I Schools like Thurgood Marshall Elementary, Truitt Intermediate, Rena B. Wright Primary, and G. W. Carver Intermediate.
- In partnership with the Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority (CRHA), we established a scholarship and a Leadership Development Mentoring Program for students in public housing or using Housing Choice Vouchers.
- In partnership with the Chesapeake Education Association, we established a Teacher Education Scholarship to encourage Black males to become public school teachers.
- The Micah and Kandi Hall Endowment provides financial awards for students in the Camelot and South Norfolk communities, funding technology advancement and school supplies.
- We recognize individuals improving our community, including through the Bronze Eagle Award.
- We sponsor community events/programs and public forums on educational issues.
- Our work addresses challenges impacting Black male enrollment in higher education, like financial access, suspensions, and lack of role models.
Why This Matters:
- Community support allows us to be a catalyst for building strong children.
- Supporting us directly benefits Chesapeake Public School students.
- It helps build strong children, uplift the community, make good schools (which can increase real estate values and attract economic development), and reflect community pride.
Your involvement, in any form, strengthens this vital community connection and helps us forge ahead and strive for excellence.
