The New Chesapeake Men for Progress Educational Foundation celebrated ten 2026 Chesapeake Public Schools graduates with $2500 scholarships on Friday, August 7, 2026 at the Chesapeake Conference Center. The NCMPEF is a 501(C)3 charitable organization that provides scholarships and mentoring to the youth in the City of Chesapeake. Mr. Kenan R. Bowers received the Geiorge W. McCadden, Sr. vocational trades and technology scholarship and will be attending Tidewater Community College. Mr. Trasye Griffieth received the Dr. William E. Ward family scholarship and will be attending Virginia Commonwealth University. Ms. Angel M. Coleman received the Ian I. Thomas Intercooler vocational trades and technology scholarship and will be attending Tidewater Community College. Ms. Madison Lee received the NCMPEF Fine Arts Scholarship and will be attending George Mason University. Ms. Mia-Symone Hawkins-Sweatt received the Norfleet Claude Jr. music and band scholarship and will be attending a university soon. Mr. Tristan Womack-Bowman received the Blake Family vocational trades and technology scholarship and will be attending Virginia Commonwealth University. Ms. Felyshia Drummond received the March Cromuel/NCMPEF civic engagement empowerment scholarship and will be attending Winston-Salem State University. Ms. Akeenay Chappell received the NCMPEF vocational trades and technical scholarship and will be attending Morgan State University. Mr. Harlan McDermott received the NCMPEF vocational trades and technical scholarship and will be attending Radford University. Mr. Calique Sweat received the Chesapeake Redevelopment & Housing Authority/ NCMPEF scholarship and will be attending Norfolk State University.
The NCMPEF has awarded $2500 scholarships to thirty-three 2026 Chesapeake Public Schools graduates in the total amount of $80,000. NCMPEF has awarded over $250,000 to the youth of Chesapeake since its inception.
